96 XJ headlight issue
« on: May 12, 2019, 09:34:35 PM »
My headlights will go out after about an hour of use. They will flash a few times then go out completely, itís only the headlights. Iíll pull over turn the switch off and wait for a couple of minutes and then proceed until the next time. Iíve replaced the switch but didnít work so Iím asking for ideas for where to look. Iím in the process of converting to a manual 5 spd., itís been a lot of work and I donít see how someone can do that swap in 2 or 3 days. When Iím done Iíll bring my XJ to the meet and greet until it gets dark. Thanks Ed

Problem solved! While dissembling the grill my grandson spotted a pocket knife and a cut in the wire insulation that shorted low beam and side marker light to ground.  The knife vibrating caused the lights to flash and eventually overload the circuit and trip the breaker.
